Electronic Cigarettes

An electronic cigarette, by any name is not a toy, fad or gimmick. Some models use a three part design with battery, atomizer and cartridge. Others use a 2 part technology which includes a lithium-ion battery, a microchip controller, cartridge with built in atomizer and an LED light at the tip. The battery looks much like the paper and tobacco part of the cigarette. The light at the tip mimics the "lit end" of the cigarette and will "light up" when the e-cigarette is puffed on.

The cartridge "filter" part of the electronic cigarette is easily screwed onto the battery and contains the liquid nicotine solution with a built-in atomizer that vaporizes the liquid nicotine into a water vapor that looks and feels just like real smoke when inhaled and exhaled. Both 2 and 3 part designs are highly effective and each offer different perks for the user.

Electronic cigarettes enable smokers to still receive the nicotine in a manner that the smoker is accustomed to, but with descending levels of nicotine, from 16mg all the way down to 0mg. Most brands offer a variety of flavors including Tobacco, Menthol, Chocolate, Vanilla, Coffee, Apple, Strawberry and so on. The genius of this new product lies in the fact that smokers can address the hand and oral part of the addiction while lowering their nicotine level, if they so choose.

Two Parts or Three?

The 2 part designs are the newest and by far the most popular styles. The two part technology enables e-smokers to get a powerful new atomizer with each new cartridge or “cartomizer”. Cartomizers (cartridge w/atomizer) are disposable and typically cost more than the refillable cartridges, but there is no maintenance required and they work perfect every time. If you like things quick and easy, or if you’re a social or “casual” smoker, the two part models is highly recommended.

The 3 part models allows users to continue using the same atomizer for a long period of time. This enables the use of refillable cartridges and money saving e-liquids. Most e-smokers enjoy the flavor their atomizer acquires over time, and advise e-smokers to use a different atomizer for each flavor. The downside is atomizers sometimes get clogged and users will have to clean or replace the atomizer eventually. If you are pack a day or more smoker and plan on e-smoking in a similar manner, our team says three parts is definitely better than two.

Button or No Button?

A few trusted brands still offer the original manual battery with push button. The button allows users to get an extra long puff, as opposed to the standard 2 second automatic puff time. If you want that full flavored “throaty” sensation when you inhale the push button model is the way to go.

When the airflow technology emerged the buttons quickly started disappearing. The automatic battery makes the electronic cigarette look and function more like a traditional cigarette. Obviously size matters, but our team found little difference in longevity between manual and automatic batteries.
